‘Anything you write, count me in’: How a San Antonio native landed his role on ‘Yellowstone’

Lonestar Live

The cast of characters in Taylor Sheridan’s hit television series “Yellowstone” are spending a considerable amount of time trying to piece together who’s behind John Dutton’s death.

And Season 5, Episode 11 of the neo-Western drama, which aired Nov. 24, saw a San Antonio native playing the role of Thomas Rainwater commiserate with Kayce and Beth Dutton amid their quest for the truth.

Rainwater, the chief of Broken Rock Indian Reservation in “Yellowstone,” is played by Gil Birmingham. And this isn’t the actor’s first time working with the “Yellowstone” cocreator, either.

The actor was born in San Antonio, Texas, in July 1953 and is of Comanche descent, per the Television Academy. Birmingham’s introduction to acting came when he starred in a music video for Diana Ross in the 1980s.
